I studied Law at Queen’s University Belfast, and I obtained a traineeship at McCann FitzGerald LLP whilst completing a Masters in International Business Law at Queen’s, and working as a Legal Analyst in an international law firm. I didn’t complete an Internship with McCann FitzGerald LLP – the impression that the firm had made on me at various careers events was enough to make me want to apply directly for a traineeship.

Currently, I am in my final seat, and the impression that the firm made on me all those years ago still rings true today. Throughout the course of my traineeship, I have been fortunate to work with industry leaders across a range of high profile and exciting transactions and disputes. Sharing an office with a Partner for the duration of my traineeship has proven to be an invaluable learning experience – you get to be right at the heart of things, listening in on client calls and observing how leading transactions are managed on a daily basis. Training is a key focus of the firm generally, and forms a pivotal aspect of the traineeship. The training available to trainees ranges from detailed lectures on litigious procedures and recent M&A deals, to communication and wellbeing workshops.

The standout feature of McCann FitzGerald LLP for me, is the people who work here. The firm both embraces and promotes a collegiate culture and open-door policy, encouraging collaboration and co-operation across practice areas. In my opinion, McCann FitzGerald LLP fosters the ideal environment in which to learn and develop as a trainee solicitor.
