The Role

McCann FitzGerald is one of Ireland’s premier law firms employing over 600 people. We provide the highest quality legal advice and representation to Irish and overseas clients. Our clients are principally in the corporate, financial and business sectors and we also advise government entities and many state bodies, pension funds, and educational institutions.

The market for legal services is changing rapidly and substantially, offering opportunities to those firms that take advantage of this new landscape.

Our Project Services team is a dedicated and specific resource which provides our clients with cost-effective and integrated solutions to manage large projects. Its tiered offering combines the skills of our project managers, technologists, senior associates, review analysts and case team to create and implement strategies for managing projects of this scale.

There now exists an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to join our Project Services Group and to support the IT requirements around that team who are digitally dependent and driven.

The successful candidate will report into Paula Fearon, Head of Project Services and will work closely with the existing ediscovery and legal technology technical team. The role is critical in supporting the firm's ability to deliver cost-effective, high-quality legal services by leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Technology Administration:

  • Work in our growing Project Services team to administer various legal technologies including:
  • Implementing and administering the firm’s eDiscovery platform, RelativityOne on a multitude of projects and ensuring our workflows are adhered to;
  • The use of the firm’s HighQ Collaborate platform, building and managing complex transactions in Virtual Data Rooms, utilising and developing legal project management tools and workflows;
  • Designing and maintaining HighQ Collaborate iSheets with a broad range of complexity and project requirements;
  • Supporting the team’s use of the firm’s generative AI platform Harvey and document automation software Contract Express; and
  • Liaising with legal technology service providers to raise user queries, request bespoke solutions etc.
  • Continuously evaluate and integrate the latest technological advancements to enhance the team’s offering.
  • Data Collection, Processing and Analysis:
  • Assist in the identification of data sources on a project-by-project basis.
  • Proficient in the use of processing methods such as de-duplication, email threading, indexing, and metadata extraction.
  • Apply search terms, date ranges, and other filters to narrow down the data set as required.
  • Use advanced analytics, such as predictive coding, continuous active learning, clustering, keyword expansion and data visualisation, to identify key documents, patterns, and trends within datasets to prioritise document review.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards during data review processes.
  • Project Management
  • Develop, manage and maintain project plans, timelines, and budgets for eDiscovery and other projects.
  • Work closely with legal teams, our IT department, and external vendors to ensure smooth execution of the firm’s legal technology.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on the status of each project, including data volumes, processing progress, and review metrics.
  • Advise internal teams on the suitability of data for predictive coding or continuous active learning and recommend appropriate machine learning models.
  • Provide expert guidance on the best technology available for various legal projects.
  • Training and Development:
  • Providing training on the use of our legal technology applications to internal teams as well as to clients and other external users
  • Train and mentor junior legal technologists and legal review analysts on the use of Relativity and other legal technologies.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date record of the status of all projects.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in legal technology and share knowledge with the team.
  • Engaging in research and development in a collaborative environment.
  • Create and maintain software documentation including training materials and capability overviews.
  • Client Support:
  • Work closely with internal teams to understand their unique goals and requirements.
  • Building relationships with our internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Provide expert technological analysis throughout the data review process.
  • Ensure high-quality support that is demonstrably robust and meets our clients' commercial and legal needs
  • Offer technical guidance over the variety of services, systems, and applications we offer over the course of the day as well as out of hours as needed.

Knowledge & Technical Skills

The successful candidate will be:

  • An IT or Legal Support professional who has an interest in the evolving nature of legal services.
  • A positive and pro-active attitude, an ability to take ownership and responsibility for the completion of tasks and the ability to take and demonstrate initiative.
  • A keen interest in best-in-class legal technology including VDR software, AI solutions, eDiscovery software and legal project management tools and a willingness to be up-skilled in these technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT and analytical skills, especially in MS office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) systems.
  • Strong organisational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Proficiency in using AI-assisted review software and other advanced legal technology tools, is preferrable but not required
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation abilities. Able to handle multiple deliveries in a changing environment with some/minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work beyond office hours on occasion.

Education & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar technical role or in the information technology sector
  • A third level qualification in a Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or other technical related fields
  • Additional certifications or training in relevant technologies is advantageous e.g. Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA).
  • Experience in document automation is advantageous.
